Advent® Dispersible Tablets
What are Advent® DT Tablets?
Advent® DT are dispersible tablets containing 400mg of Amoxycillin and 75mg of Clavulanic Acid. Amoxycillin is an antibiotic that works by hindering the development of the bacterial protective layer crucial for bacterial survival. Clavulanic Acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor, lessens resistance and boosts Amoxycillin's effectiveness against bacteria.
Uses of Advent® DT Tablets
Advent® DT Tablets treat various infections, including:
- Urinary tract infections (UTIs): pyelonephritis (kidney inflammation) and cystitis (bladder infection).
- Skin and skin structure infections: cellulitis (serious bacterial skin infection).
- Lower respiratory tract infections: bronchitis (airway inflammation) and pneumonia (lung infection).
- Acute bacterial sinusitis (nasal passage inflammation).
- Acute otitis media (middle ear infection).
- Gingivitis (gum swelling).
- Infections from animal bites.
The medication works by inhibiting the growth of infection-causing bacteria.
When Not to Use Advent® DT Tablets
Advent® DT is ineffective against colds, the flu, and other viral infections.
Penicillin-class Antibacterial
Advent® DT belongs to the penicillin-class antibacterial medications. Penicillins are a group of antibiotics used to treat and prevent various bacterial infections.
How to Use Advent® DT Tablets
Always follow your doctor's instructions and the product label. Take the medication as prescribed.
Advent® DT can be taken with or without food, although taking it with food may reduce digestive upset. The medication might be taken every 8 or 12 hours, depending on the prescribed dosage. Avoid taking two doses within an hour.
Typical adult dosage is 500mg every 12 hours or 250mg every 8 hours. For children (12 weeks and older), the typical dosage is 45mg/kg/day every 12 hours or 40mg/kg/day every 8 hours. For neonates and infants under 12 weeks, the dosage is 30mg/kg/day divided every 12 hours. This medication is typically taken at the same time each day and is not habit-forming.
Use this medication as needed, but not for more than 14 days without a doctor's review. Continue using the medication as directed, even if you feel better. Report any persistent or worsening symptoms or new symptoms to your doctor immediately. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience a skin rash, severe diarrhea (watery or bloody), fever, difficulty breathing, severe stomach pain, swollen glands, facial or throat swelling, or vasculitis. Kidney disease may affect amoxicillin elimination; dosage adjustments may be necessary for neonates, infants, and the elderly due to potential side effects.
When administering to children, use a children's formulation and always carefully check the dosage based on the child's weight or age, consulting the package insert or your doctor.
For liquid forms, use the provided measuring device (cup, spoon, or dropper) and ensure accurate measurement. Do not use household spoons or teaspoons. If directed, shake the liquid before use. Chewable tablets should be chewed before swallowing. Extended-release formulations may be recommended to minimize side effects; do not crush or chew unless specified.
Limit alcohol consumption while taking Advent® DT. This medication is for its prescribed use only. Do not share this medication with others.
Store Advent® DT at 25°C (77°F), protected from moisture and sunlight. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
