What is Ferrogen XT®?

Ferrogen XT® is a medication used to treat various conditions related to iron and folate deficiencies. It's primarily employed in cases of iron deficiency anemia, a condition where the body lacks sufficient iron to produce enough healthy red blood cells. This deficiency can stem from various sources, including poor diet, blood loss, or impaired iron absorption. Ferrogen XT® also addresses folate deficiency, which is crucial for red blood cell production and overall cell growth. A deficiency in folate can lead to megaloblastic anemia, characterized by abnormally large red blood cells. The drug's combination of ferrous ascorbate (an iron compound) and folic acid works to correct these deficiencies.

Ferrogen XT® may be prescribed for:

• Iron deficiency anemia
• Anemias resulting from nutritional deficiencies during pregnancy, infancy, or childhood
• Megaloblastic anemias caused by folate deficiency

Side Effects

Precautions

• Nitrofurantoin
• Penicillamine

When Not to Use Ferrogen XT®

Ferrogen XT® is contraindicated in individuals with:

• Known hypersensitivity or allergy to Ferrogen XT® or its components.
• Severe bacterial infections
• Iron intolerance

Composition

Each Ferrogen XT® tablet contains:

• Folic Acid (Vitamin B9): 1.5 mg
• Ferrous Ascorbate: 100 mg

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it's almost time for your next dose. Do not double the dose to catch up. Consistent missed doses warrant a discussion with your doctor to adjust your medication schedule.

Overdose

Never exceed the prescribed dosage. An overdose can lead to serious health consequences. In case of an overdose, seek immediate medical attention.

Storage

Store Ferrogen XT® at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children and pets. Dispose of expired medication properly.
