Actoplus Met (Pioglitazone/Metformin)

Uses

Actoplus Met is a combination medication containing pioglitazone and metformin, prescribed for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It helps control blood sugar levels when used in conjunction with a proper diet and exercise regimen. It can be used as a standalone treatment or in combination with other antidiabetic medications to achieve optimal glycemic control.

Dosage and Administration

Always follow your doctor's instructions when using Actoplus Met. The dosage will depend on your individual condition and response to treatment. Consult the prescription label for precise dosing information.

Important Instructions:

  • Actoplus Met should be taken orally with meals to minimize gastrointestinal discomfort.
  • Maintain a consistent daily schedule to ensure optimal effectiveness. Taking the medication at the same time(s) each day will help you remember.
  • Continue taking Actoplus Met as prescribed, even if you feel well. Do not skip doses.
  • An additional patient information leaflet is provided with Actoplus Met. Consult your pharmacist if you have any questions regarding this information.

Drug Class and Mechanism of Action

Actoplus Met is classified as a combination of biguanide (metformin) and thiazolidinedione (pioglitazone) antidiabetic agents. It functions through multiple mechanisms:

  • Metformin reduces glucose production in the liver and decreases glucose absorption in the intestines.
  • Pioglitazone enhances the body's sensitivity to insulin, enabling more efficient glucose utilization.

What to do if you Missed a Dose

If you forget to take a dose of Actoplus Met, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is nearing the time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.

Storage Instructions

Store Actoplus Met at room temperature (77 degrees F or 25 degrees C) in a tightly sealed container, away from heat, moisture, and direct light. Brief storage between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is acceptable.
